Obituary of James S. Law

Canastota—James S. Law, 80, of Kelly Road Canastota died Sunday afternoon December 27, 2020, in the Siegenthaler Center at Hospice and Palliative Care in New Hartford where he had been a patient since December 23rd. Jim was born on December 4, 1940, in Kingston, NY, the son of John and Elsie Jaeger Law. He was a graduate of Gilboa High School, class of 1958. He then attended SUNY Cobleskill. In 2004, he moved to Canastota from Middletown, NY. Jim was employed a salesman for most of his career and retired from the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce in 2004. On August 8, 1987, he married Katharine Schwan in Rochester, NY. Jim loved the outdoors from the time he was a youngster growing up on a dairy farm in Sullivan county in the Catskills. He especially enjoyed spending time in nature with his two sons. In his earlier years, he loved to ski and always had a fondness for horses and spent many hours caring for them on Kelly Road. Surviving besides his loving wife, Kate; are his son Christopher Law, of Rochester; his siblings, Patricia (Wilfred) DeSain, of Baldwinsville, William (Alberta) Law, of Troy, OH, and Dennis Law, Pensacola, FL; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son, Colin, just four days earlier on December 23, 2020, and his son, Christopher’s mother, Joy Hauppenthal, of Rochester. A Memorial Service for Jim will be held at a future date. There are no public calling hours at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY, 13413.
