Obituary of Benedict J Gambitta

Benedict J. Gambitta, 74, of Oneida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at the Katherine Lutheran Home in Clinton where he had been a patient since December 1, 2020. He was born on June 20, 1946, in Oneida, the son of Benedict J. and Elvira Santa Balducci Gambitta. Benny was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1964. On October 24, 1979, Benny was united in marriage to Paula M. Fera in St. Joseph’s Church in Oneida. Benny was the Vice President of Operations of Food Service at Oneida Limited for forty years, retiring in 2008. After retirement, Benny started GAMCO consulting for the old company. Benny was a lifelong resident of the Oneida area except spending the last four years in Edgewater, FL. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the E. Bart Hanifin Council 473 Knights of Columbus. Benny was an avid golfer and longtime member of Kanon Valley Country Club. He was a frequent invited guest at the Powhatan Club. He loved to fish especially in Clayton. He enjoyed spending afternoons at Saratoga and Vernon Downs watching the horse races. He loved to entertain for family and friends and could often be found behind the grill. Benny was loved by many people especially his field sales forces. Surviving besides his loving wife, Paula; are his daughter, Michelle (Raymond) Heh, of Bouckville; a sister, Ginny LaVancher, of Canastota; four grandchildren, Dr. Alicia (Pete) Wyckoff, Dylan Heh who will miss the many nights at Supper Club with Grandpa, Corey (Jessie) Carnevale, and Derek Carnevale; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jacob, and Nicholas Carnevale; a beloved nephew whom he thought of as his son, Robert (Brenda) Hicks, of Sherrill and their children, Amanda Ellie Hicks and Matthew Robert “Matt the cat” Hicks; his second family, Peter and Teresa Fobare and Rick and Cheri Munger, Chuck and Kitty Collier; and many dear friends. Benny was predeceased by a granddaughter, Deserai M. Carnevale on November 16, 1990; a brother-in-law, Frederick C. “Fred” LaVancher on October 15, 2013; and a son, Darren P. Carnevale, on April 1, 2019. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at St. Patrick’s Church, 347 Main St., Oneida, at 11:30 AM where the Rev. Nathan Brooks will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The funeral home staff respectively asks you to wear a facial covering and maintain social distancing protocols.
