Obituary of June D. Burleson

June D. Burleson, 86, of 4774 Morgan Rd., Oneida, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice. She was born on December 14, 1933, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Fred and Mary Garrow Johansen. June was a graduate of Stockbridge Valley Central High School, Class of 1951. She went on to attend business school at Central City Business Institute. She was also a licensed beautician for many years. On July 11, 1953, June was united in marriage to Robert C. Burleson in St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota. Robert passed away on August 4, 1963. June was employed as an office manager for 26 years at Quality Components, Inc., retiring in 1996. June was a parishioner of St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota, and later St. Joseph’s Church in Oneida where she was very active in both church choirs. She had a passion for music and was able to share her passion by playing with the Canastota Community Band for many years until her body no longer allowed her to. She was also an avid quilter and accomplished seamstress. She would spend most of her days sewing something for family and friends. She also enjoyed painting ceramics. In most recent years, she attended the day treatment program at the Presbyterian Home. Surviving are her children, John (Betty) Burleson, of Lompoc, CA, Fred (Lynn) Burleson, of Dexter, NY, Stuart (Kathy) Burleson, of Norfolk, VA, and Hope (Bob) McCormick, of Oneida; her daughter-in-law, Amina Burleson, of Grand Island, FL; a brother, Fred (Brenda) Johansen, of Canastota; two sisters, Hellen (Bernard) Miller, of Clockville, and Peggy Loomis, of Benson, NC; ten grandchildren, Mark (Tracy), Courtney, Ahd, Chahd, Matthew, Adam, Lisa, Daniel (Megan), Joseph (Alyssa), and Michael (Noël); eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two long-term caregivers who became family, Jacqueline Jaquay and Gail Crisafi. June was predeceased by a son, Robert E. Burleson on April 20, 2019; a sister, Jeanne Johansen; and two brothers, John Johansen and Edward Johansen. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the health restrictions related to it, her Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Gravesides services in St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in June’s memory to Giving Voice Chorus, 4627 Bruce Ave., Edina, MN 55424. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida.
