Obituary of Francesca Gioia

Francesca Gioia, 98, of 3879 Pratt Drive, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Oneida Health Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.


She was born on January 7, 1921, in Partanna, Italy, the daughter of Calogero and Antonina Signorelli Aiello.  She graduated from high school in Italy.


In 1946, Francesca was united in marriage to Pietro Gioia.  He passed away in April of 1977.


Francesca was employed as a seamstress for Nellie Motta in Brooklyn for twelve years, retiring in 1985.  After her retirement, she moved to Oneida to be with her daughter.


She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida.


Francesca’s greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family.  Her cherished the moments she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 


Surviving are two children, Enzo (Pia) Gioia, of Monroe, NJ, and Antonina “Nina” (Bartolo) Trinca, of Oneida; nine grandchildren, Josephine Ferruccio, Piera (Liborio) Maurello, Francesca (Mark) O’Connor, Piero (Angie) Gioia, Alessandro (Laura) Trinca, Gianpiero (Julie) Trinca, Annalisa (Stephanie) Gioia-Frisz, David (Jessica) Gioia, and Sabrina (Tom) Trinca-Brennan; fourteen great-grandchildren, Elisa (Carl), Mirella (Jack), Giancarlo, Gabriele, Sofia, Isabella, Fiona, Olivia, Alana, Luca, Emilia, Penelope, Adrian, and Mia; four great great-grandchildren, Valentina, Antonino, Alessandra, and Luca; a brother, Raimondo (Maria) Aiello, of Roscoe, NY; and several nieces and nephews.  Francesca was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Maria (Salvatore) Roccaforte; a grandson-in-law, Nino Ferruccio; two brothers, Gaetano Aiello, and Vito Aiello.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019, beginning with a prayer service at 9:30 AM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church at 10:00 AM where the Rev. Richard J. Kapral will officiate.  Entombment will take place in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota.  Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida.  Memorial contributions may be made in Francesca’s memory to St. Patrick’s Church Memorial Fund, 347 Main St., Oneida.
