Obituary of Mildred M Schmidt

Utica—Mildred M. “Millie” Schmidt, 100, formerly of Black Ave. W., Vernon, passed away Thursday morning, December 6, 2018, at Masonic Care Community in Utica where she had a been a resident since March 31, 2010.

 

She was born on July 24, 1918, in Manhattan, New York, the daughter of John and Sophie Tomko Fann.  Millie was a graduate of Jamaica High School in Queens.

 

On October 30, 1949, Millie was united in marriage to Frank T. Schmidt in Grace Lutheran Church in Queens.  Mr. Schmidt passed away on December 4, 1998.

 

Millie was an account clerk for the Village of Suffern, retiring in August of 1973.

While she lived in Warwick, she was a member of the Laurel Court #58 Amaranth in Port Jervis, NY, where she served as secretary, the Sadik Court #18—Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America in Scotch Plains, NJ, and the Maalas #20 Daughters of the Nile in Livingston, NJ.

 

After moving to Vernon in 1992, she became a member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oneida and then later a St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rome. She was also a member of the  Winona Chapter 249 Order of the Eastern Star.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Mildred A. (Leonard D.) Moore, of Oneida, and Joan L. (Steven N.) Heller, of Calistoga, CA; five grandchildren, Amanda (Dan) Howrigan, Rebecca (Randy) Makiej, Benjamin (Jessie) Moore, Alyson (Scott) Nelson, and Jacqueline Heller; four great-grand children, Willa, Andrew, Van and Eleanor; a sister-in-law June Fann of Kona HI and one nephew, Michael (Nancy) Fann  of Kona HI.  Millie was predeceased by a brother, John D. Fann.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 15 at 11:00 AM from Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., where the Rev. Nick Smith will officiate.  Interment will be made in Valley View Cemetery Oneida.
