Obituary of Vera E. Branch
Abbeville, AL---Vera E. Branch, 79, of 665 Calhoun Drive, Abbeville, AL died Saturday evening, May 26, 2018, in the Noland Hospital at Dothan, AL, following an illness of the last months.
Vera was born March 19, 1939, in Canastota, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Alice Wright Smith. She was a graduate of Canastota High School, class of 1957.
Following graduation, she was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Smith-Lee Company in Oneida. Vera moved to the Pittsburgh area where she began a career in real estate. She worked as a real estate agent for many years and continued to manage personal real estate properties for herself and her husband throughout her illness.
She married Thomas L. Branch on June 24, 1987, in Pittsburgh, PA. Although she spent her winters in Alabama and summers in Pennsylvania, Vera had a special place in her heart for the Adirondacks in New York.
Her generosity toward her community did not go unnoticed. Her support of the White Oak Methodist Church Food Bank and the various animal shelters in Barbour County in Alabama will be sorely missed.
Surviving Vera are her husband, Thomas L., 5 step-sons, Patrick I. (Joan) Branch of Pittsburgh, PA, Thomas J. Branch (Blanca) of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert A. (Adell) Branch of Waddell, AZ, Gregory W. (Vera) Branch of London, England, and Jonathan L. Branch of Pittsburgh, PA; three sisters, Karon (Kent) Price of Canastota, Melody DeBalso of Sherrill and fiancé, Everett Taylor of Oneida, and Rose Mary Mahady of Sherrill; two brothers-in-law, Robert Sturdevant II and Robert Foglino; 10 step-grandchildren,
3 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Vera was pre-deceased by her parents, her first husband, Ronald Cox, two sisters, Sharon Sturdevant and Linda Foglino and three brothers-in-law, Anthony Rinaldo, Michael DeBalso and Francis Mahady.
Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Saturday, June 2, 2018, from the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will be made in Lenox Rural Cemetery Canastota, NY. Friends are invited and may call 4-7 PM Friday at the funeral home, 342 Main Street, Oneida, NY. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
