Obituary of Iris L. Chmura

died peacefully Tuesday afternoon June 23, 2009 at Bethany Gardens in Rome following a stroke which occurred on February 20, 2009. Born in Oneida on June 3, 1927 in Oneida, Iris was the daughter of W. Leroy and Marjorie H. McCumber Lints. A lifelong resident of the Oneida and Verona area, she was a graduate of Sherrill High School class of 1945. Iris married Fred Chmura on June 9, 1946 in Kenwood Heights Alliance Church. Mr. Chmura died on January 10, 2001. Iris was a loving mother, homemaker, involved and active grandmother and great grandmother who also found time to help her husband on their farm and be employed as a bookkeeper for four years at Roman Roads Hauling in Oneida before retiring in 1994. She was a member a Plymouth Alliance Church in Sherrill. Iris was a tireless volunteer and a member and Past President, Treasurer and District Treasurer of the Alliance Women. She was also a member of the Sherrill Garden Club where she had been Past President and Treasurer, and the 5th District Garden Club where she was the Treasurer. She was also a member of the Verona Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, the Oneida Chapter #3328 AARP, the Verona Historical Society, the Verona Senior Citizens, the Oneida Limited Retirement Club where she had served as Past Chapter Secretary and had been a volunteer for the Madison County Office for the Aging. Iris was also a valued member of "Murphy's Breakfast Club" in Oneida. Iris truly loved to travel and had major trips to Poland, Indonesia, Mexico and Alaska and sponsored very special cruise to Bermuda in 2005 that was enjoyed by her family. Surviving are two daughters; Iris Jeanne Chmura of Verona, Loraine Kay Kotary and Lenny Cummins of Baldwinsville, one son; Max Edward Chmura and Jamie A. Woodward of Loudonville, seven grandchildren; Jay and Andrea Moffitt of Verona, Stacey Chmura of Albany, Michael Kotary of Baldwinsville, Susan Cosimeno of Perryton, Texas, Andrew and Melissa Kotary of Baldwinsville, Meaghan Chmura and Tony Maul of Brooklyn and Delaney Chmura of Loudonville, three great-grandchildren; Amanda Howlett, Cassandra Moffitt and Cassidy Moffitt and one great-great granddaughter Kairi Rose Robbins. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Friday June 26, 2009 from the Ironside Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Constance Seifert and Reverend Neil Coe co-officiating. Interment will be made in Valley View Cemetery, Oneida. Friends are invited and may call between 4 and 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home 342 Main Street, Oneida.
