Obituary of Donald J Caddis

Donald J. Caddis, 90, of Cleveland Ave,. Oneida, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, November 21, 2021, surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice. He was born on May 25, 1931, the son of Andrew R. and Nellie Waller Caddis. He was a 1949 graduate of Ripley Central High School. On August 28, 1950, Donald proudly enlisted in the United States Navy serving until his honorable discharge on June 21, 1954. On July 22, 1955, Donald was united in marriage to Audrey B. Saunders. A blessed union of fifty-nine years until Audrey’s passing on February 27, 2015. Donald was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the NYS Thruway Authority for thirty-three years. He later went on to be a maintenance supervisor for Parker Hanifin and later Oswego Hospital. He was a member of the Durhamville Vet’s Club, the Oneida American Legion Post #169, and the Order of the Owl’s Nest. He was a former member of the Oneida Moose Club. After retirement, Donald and his wife, Audrey, enjoyed traveling in their motor home and wintering in Largo, FL. Surviving are his four daughters, Darlene (Sam) Sgarlata, of Oneida, Gail Crisafi, of Oneida, Wendy Barry, of Wampsville, and Susan Kellum, of Oneida; ten grandchildren, Heather (Steve) Catello, John (Genevieve) Sgarlata, Alicia (Mike) Sharon, and Steven (Laura) Sgarlata, Deric (Tory) Crisafi, Christeen (Mark) Staats, Nadine (Mark) Flynn, Nathan Barry (Terra Lawler), Dale (Kylie) Kellum, Sheila (Michael) Lynch; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Davis, of Erie, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by a son-in-law, Bart Crisafi; two sisters, Jennie Wittmaak, Kathleen Newhouse; and two brothers, Andrew J. Caddis, and David C. Caddis. Donald’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for the kindness and compassion shown to him during his final weeks. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021, at 3:00 PM at the Durhamville Vets Club. Entombment will take place in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota. There are no calling hours.
