Obituary of Shirley A Faber
Shirley A. Faber, 73, of 5868 Country Dr., Verona, passed away on Thursday evening, September 30, 2021, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. She was born on December 11, 1947, the daughter of Garry and Carrie Malestein VanDerHeide. She was a 1966 graduate of Chester High School, Chester, NY. On August 24, 1968, Shirley was united in marriage to Cornelius “Casey” Faber in Goshen, NY. Casey and Shirley moved to upstate NY where they took over Casey’s father’s dairy farm for twenty-five years. The farm was a central part of their lives where they raised their three children. Her brothers and sister visited as often as they could and the farm held many fond memories to her nieces and nephews. Shirley was employed as a billing clerk for Dr. Mastrolia’s office in Oneida for many years and had previously worked at Dr. Zeun’s office. Shirley was an active member of the Verona First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon. She was a former member of the Christian Reform Church in Goshen. Shirley enjoyed cooking and baking. She would spend all day baking if she could. She also enjoyed gardening and watching the birds in her yard. Shirley liked to travel to Michigan to visit her family. And recently, she became a NASCAR fan where she enjoyed Sunday dinners watching the race with her husband, Casey, and brother-in-law, John. Shirley’s absolute greatest joy in life was spending precious time with her grandkids. She would attend every event that she could just to see her grandkids. Shirley’s family will be eternally grateful for the second chance at life that she was given over the past five years. Casey, her kids, and grandkids were able to spend time with the Shirley that they knew and loved. They will forever treasure the past five years. Surviving besides her loving husband, Casey; are her three children, Chad Faber (Dawn), of Oneida, Casey (Connie) Faber, of Vernon Center, and Cori (Dr. Ken) Harrington, of Cleveland; her siblings, Dr. Everet (Linda) VanDerHeide, of Grand Rapids, MI, Dr. Rev. William (Marge) VanDerHeide, of Custer, MI, and Carol (William) Nelson, of Vass, NC; her five beloved grandchildren, Makayla, Devon, Adrianna, Logan, and Sienna; her best friends, Jean Barrett, Betty Lobb, and Pat Feuerbach, her dear church friends, her neighbor, Millie (whom she loved having porch talks with), her cats, Bootz and Josie, and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Garry and Carrie; her aunts and uncles who she loved dearly and shared many stories about including her Aunt Anne and Uncle Hen, she was the flower girl in their wedding and she enjoyed baking many of Aunt Anne’s almond treats.
