Virginia C. Griesmyer, 92, of Broad St., Oneida, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021, at the Masonic Home in Utica where she had been a resident since September 2019. She was born on May 28, 1928, in Durhamville, the daughter of Homer J. and Dorothy A. Kilts Cox. Virginia was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1946. On November 22, 1947, Virginia was united in marriage to Norman A. Griesmyer in St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida. Mr. Griesmyer passed away on August 6, 1975. Virginia was employed in the bookkeeping and data entry departments at Oneida Valley National Bank for twenty-four years, retiring in 1993. A lifelong resident of this area, she was a member of the Oneida Baptist Church where she was a head usher for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over seventy years and she served as a county chairperson. She was a member of the 40 and 8. She also was a crossing guard at the Washington Ave. School in Oneida for many years. She also a member of the DAR and the YMCA. Surviving are her three children, Linda S. Aiken, of Windsor, CO, William A. (Isabelle) Griesmyer, of Charlotte, NC, and Peter W. Griesmyer, of Meridian, ID; a daughter-in-law, Connie Griesmyer, of Nampa, ID; a brother, Paul V. Cox, of Sherrill; two sisters, Nancy Loomis, of New Port Richey, and Suzanne E. Clark, of Blossvale; grandchildren, Alesia (Jonathan) Benson, Kathy (TJ) Griesmyer, Betsy Griesmyer, Brian (Shelby) Aiken, Craig (Michaela) Aiken; four great-grandsons, Brendan, Coby, Lincoln, and Noah; her good friend, Pauline Gormley; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was predeceased by a son-in-law, Edward G. Aiken, on November 14, 2010, a sister, Barbara J. Harris, on March 7, 2020; three brothers-in-law, William J. Harris, on September 10, 1997, John A. Clark, on January 7, 2006, and Williams G. Loomis, on June 18, 2011; a nephew, Thomas M. Harris, on June 13, 2012; and two aunts, Ruby J. Kilts Fearon on March 18, 1985, and Rhoda Kiltsand a nephew Joseph Harris on May 25, 2021. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church, Oneida, with the Very Rev. Arthur “Nick” Smith, presiding. The Episcopal Diocese has asked the everyone in the church wear a mask when attending. Interment took place on January 7, 2021, in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Oneida. There are no calling hours.
