Edward S. VanSlyke, 59, of Oneida, died Friday evening, September 17, 2021, in Oneida Health Hospital following a brief illness. Ed was born on December 31, 1961, in Oneida, the son of Raymond and Karen Harp VanSlyke. A lifelong resident of Oneida, he attended Oneida Schools. On June 19, 2021, he married Robin D. Mead in Chittenango. For the last 13 years, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for J. K. Tobin Construction Company, Inc. in Jamesville. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing. He was also a history buff and enjoyed movies. Surviving are his wife, Robin, six children; Ammie (Jeff) Ruhmel of Oneida, Michael (Kerilyn) VanSlyke of Rochester, Sarah VanSlyke and fiancée David Schuyler of Liverpool, Jessica VanSlyke of Oneida, Geoff (Megan) Griff of Nelson and Ashley Griff of Oneida, seven grandchildren; Owen Petzold, Nathaniel Petzold, Natalie (Dalton) Bates, Bridget McCabe, Aiden Vetter, Elizabeth Griff and Sawyer Dibble, one great-grandson Kenyon Bates, his sister and brother; Donna (Jason) McKenzie of Durhamville and Charles “Scooter” VanSlyke, of Oneida and the mother of his children, Marjorie (Jim) Farnam. He was pre-deceased by his parents and two brothers; John Edward and Gary VanSlyke and sister; Carol Burgdoff. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Sunnyside Cemetery . There will be no calling hours.
