Martin John Parlow, 58, died Aug, 8, 2021, at Oneida Health Hospital after a serious illness. Born Aug. 10, 1962, he was the son of late George and Frances Parlow. He attended Canastota and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill schools. Growing up, he worked on area farms during harvest season. Later, he worked as a line cook at area restaurants and enjoyed experimenting with recipes, sharing the wonderful results with friends and family. He was an excellent pit master, and created and sold Rub Some Grub spices mixes, best used for smoking meats. He fell in love with the outdoors, venturing west to explore the Rocky Mountains. For a time, he worked on a chuck wagon for tourism groups, entertaining hikers with his trail creations and stories. He was an avid reader, star gazer and traveled the country for countless Grateful Dead concerts. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Lee (Jeff) Hill of Verona and her son, Nathan; sisters Marcia Rafte of Wampsville, Marlene Parlow and Marilyn Clark of Oneida, and Mary Rodgers of Elmira; nieces and nephews Leslie (Jim) White of Fairport, Warren Jacobs and Adam (Tracy) Jacobs of Oneida, Reid Jacobs and Soozy Churchill of Baltimore, Aaron Clark of Florida, Joseph (Missy) Parlow of Cazenovia, and Andrew Parlow of Tucson, Ariz.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Center Street Market, 106 Center St., Canastota. Parking is available in the village parking lot across the street.
