Beatrice H. “Bea” Albert, 85, of 6660 Higginsville Rd., Durhamville, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 12, 1933, on Fort Bull in Rome, the daughter of Peter A. and Winifred M. Wesseldine Hitchings. Bea attended Verona Schools.
On August 19, 1949, Bea was united in marriage to Harold F. Albert. Mr. Albert passed away on May 10, 2013.
Bea was employed as a sales clerk for Ames Department Store for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1998.
She was a former member of the Upstate Citizens for Equality.
Bea was a social butterfly and was one of the most caring people you would ever meet. She loved feeding her birds and enjoying her beautiful gardens. She was well-known for her homemade sweet pickles.
Surviving are three children: Jerry F. (Diane Volker) Albert, of Schenectady, Christopher J. Albert, of Durhamville, and Colleen M. (Brian) Anderson, of Canastota; two brothers, Claude (Janet) Hitchings, and Jimmy (Terry) Hitchings, all of Durhamville; four grandchildren, Sheila, Ricky, Jack (Misti), and Amanda; eight great-grandchildren, Jesse, Brenna, Alexis, Olivia, Christopher, Shawna, Tyler, and Giovonni; one great great-grandson, Decklyn; a sister, Linda Dymes; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Roberts, of Vernon, Michael Costanza, of Canastota; a sister-in-law, Marian Hitchingsand several nieces and nephews. Bea was predeceased by seven sisters, Mary Fargo, Dorothy Wakefield, Bertha Wright, Winnie Mae Canarelli, Florence Roberts, Isabelle Costanza, and Betsy Marie Hitchings; one brother, Peter Hitchings; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Albert.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 2:30 PM at the Grove Cemetery, Durhamville. Family and friends are invited and may call on Saturday prior to the Graveside service from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial contributions may be made in Bea’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, 6484 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY, 13413.
