Harold D. Hewitt, 82, of 5593 Skinner Rd., Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Oneida Healthcare, where he had been a patient for the past five days.
He was born on November 26, 1935, in Oneida, the son of Harold and Elenora Butler Hewitt. Harold attended Oneida schools.
On April 10, 1955, Harold was united in marriage to Helen Welch at Sunset Lake. Mrs. Hewitt passed away in February 1986.
Harold was employed as a laborer for New York State Department of Transportation in Oneida for over thirty years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oneida, a former member of the Owls Nest #1606 in Oneida. He loved to fish and was a former fast pitch softball player.
Surviving are three children, Harold (Debbie) Hewitt, of ME, Jake (Joanne) Hewitt, of Sylvan Beach, and Erin Hewitt, of Seagoville, TX; three grandchildren, Jarred Hewitt, David (Miranda) Netzband, Jacob (Kaitlin) Maybarry, and Nick (Karly) Hewitt; four great-granddaughters, Olive, Arya, Ava, and Lela; a brother, John Hewitt, of Oneida; two sisters, Myrtle (Art) Crandall, of Oneida, and Jeanette Tiberio, of Cortland; and several nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by three brothers, George H. Hewitt, Alfred “Punk” Hewitt, and Robert “Babe” Hewitt.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida.
