Thomas Peter "Peter" Strong

Thomas Peter Strong, 69, of Pompey, NY, passed away Thursday night November 2, 2017, at Crouse Hospital after a sudden illness.

Peter was born September 17, 1948, in Richmond CA, the son of and pre-deceased by his parents, Robert Henry and Jeanne G. Strong. He grew up in DeWitt NY, and graduated from Jamesville-Dewitt High School.

Peter was a United States Navy veteran before beginning his work career as an RF Engineer at Philips Broadband / Magnavox CATV, Marquart Switches, TRW, and Lockheed Martin in Liverpool NY before retiring in 2010. During his working years, he also obtained two patents for inventing new sensors.

Incredibly smart and witty, Peter thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends and family, either in the Adirondacks, listening to classic country music, riding his Rickman and Triumph motorcycles, or tooling around central New York in his beloved classic VW's or Volvos. Peter also enjoyed target practice at the Pompey Rod & Gun Club, spending time fixing radios, TVs & phonographs, boating and skiing, and engaging in intense conversations; though cherished his family most of all.

On May 11, 1985, Peter was united in marriage to Margaret "Peggy" McDermott.

Surviving besides his loving wife Peggy, are two sons Wyatt H. Strong of West Los Angeles, CA, Cody R. Strong of Pompey, step-son Jesse Brooker of Syracuse; two sisters; Susan Larson of Valparaiso, IN, Cindy (Bob) Stratton of East Syracuse, one brother; Jamie (Deb) Strong of Skaneateles, and several nieces and nephews. Peter is also survived by his mother-in-law Catherine McDermott of Sherill, half-siblings; Debbie, Lourae, Marty and Cliff, sister-in-law Janice Hudson of Oneida, brothers-in-law Brian (Maria) McDermott of Lewisberg, PA and Thomas McDermott of Chickamauga, GA.

Peter was also predeceased by his beloved grandparents Henry G. and Floretta L. Strong, birth mother Margie Bryant (Strong) Grove, father-in-law Fredrick R. McDermott, half-sister Mary Grove, his brothers-in-law Rick Larson and Chuck Hudson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at DeWitt Community Church, 3600 Erie Blvd. East, DeWitt, NY. Interment will take place in DeWitt Community Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00PM, with a service to follow at 6PM at the church.
