Doris P. Bailey

Doris P. Bailey,
87, a resident of Stonehedge Nursing Home, formerly of 346 Main Street
Oneida passed away Sunday evening December 12, 2004 in Crouse Irving
Memorial Hospital Syracuse.
Doris was born on March 5,
1917 in Westmoreland, the daughter of Elton H. and Ruth E. Hiller Dixon.
She had been a resident of Oneida since 1980 until moving into
the nursing home on September 24, 1993.
She was a graduate of the West Leyden Schools class of 1935.
Doris had been employed as
the manager of Fashion Fabric Store in New Hartford before coming to
Oneida.
She was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church in Oneida and a former member and past
president of the Oneida Writers League.
Surviving are five daughters
and four son-in-laws: Rochelle Hamel of Jamesville, Shane and John Sia
of Medina, Pamela (Dam-Neumann) and Charles Gilmore of Sherrill,
Debborah and Lawrence Owens of Canastota and Tanis and Gil Loera of
Corona, CA, two sons and daughter-in-laws: Neil and Grace Kaiding of
Sanford, NC and Kevin and Linda Bailey of Oneida, twenty grandchildren
and nine great grandchildren. She was recently predeceased by her
stepmother Ellen Iva Dixon on December 3, 2004.
Funeral
Services will be held 6:00 PM Thursday December 16, 2004 at the First
Presbyterian Church, corner of Broad and Stone Streets, Oneida with
Pastor Stuart C. Wattles officiating. Spring interment will be made in
Lowell Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call 4-6 PM Thursday in the
family parlor at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the
First Presbyterian Church 304 Broad Street Oneida, NY 13421.

Mary Baldigo

Mary Baldigo,
89, of 530 Broadway Oneida died peacefully Tuesday morning February 3,
2004 with her loving family at her side, at the Oneida Healthcare Center
Extended Care Facility where she had been a resident since May 28, 1999.
Mary was born on November
20, 1914 in Dayton, OH the daughter of Peter and Amelia Reczko Kowalski.
Mary had been a resident of
Oneida since 1947.
She married Anthony J.
Baldigo on November 17, 1934 in Rome. Mr. Baldigo died on March 7, 1999.
Mary was employed for 10
years with Oneida Ltd. Silversmiths and had previously been employed
with the former Jack’s Tasty Snack Co. of Oneida.
She was a member of St.
Patrick’s Church in Oneida.
Surviving are three
daughters and one son-in-law; Elizabeth B. (Betty) Harrington of Sun
City, AZ, Patricia L. and Rolfe Ferrara of Oneida, Deborah J. Newton of
Verona, one sister Jean Szyper of Brunswick, GA, eight grandchildren;
Kim Stine of Blossvale, Kerry Harrington of Phoenix, AZ, Karen Moe of
Phoenix, AZ, Linda DiPetro of Harleysville, PA, Michael Ferrara of Santa
Rosa, CA, James Ferrara of Bernardsville, NJ, Joie Newton of Charlotte
NC, and Jason Newton of Verona, 14 great grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. She also had a special friend Adam VanVaulkenburg
of Canastota who visited her regularly at the ECF.
Funeral
Services will be held 11:30 AM Saturday February 7, 2004 from the
Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. and 12:00 Noon from St. Patrick’s Church
where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. David J. Orzel. Interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Oneida.
Friends are invited and may call 4-7 PM Friday at the funeral

Cleve C. Burton Sr.
63, of 15 Van Epps Street died unexpectedly at his home Monday August
23, 2004.
Cleve was born on July 29,
1941 in Oneida the son of Robert H. and Ruth Christie Burton. A lifelong
resident of the area he was a graduate of VVS High School.
He married Elizabeth Johnson
on February 5, 1965 in Knoxboro.
Cleve was employed as
assistant manager in the Houseware's department of the Rome Wal-Mart for
the last 10 years.
He had attended the Vernon
Baptist Church.
Cleve was a member of the
Sons of the American Legion Post #232 in Clinton and had formerly served
as Commander, Detachment Commander and 5th District
Commander.
Many years ago Cleve raced
horses at Vernon Downs and raced cars at the Utica-Rome Speedway.
He enjoyed watching NASCAR
on television and was a fan of #24 Jeff Gordon.
He also enjoyed watching Syracuse University Basketball.
Surviving is his wife Betty,
his mother Ruth Burton of Vernon, two daughters and one son-in-law; Dawn
Yerkie of Vernon, Connie and Michael Dunham of Vernon, five sons and
three daughter-in-laws; David and Carol Burton of Melbourne Fl, William
and Rose Burton of Lakeland, Fl, Paul Burton of Lakeland, Fl, Cleve Jr.
and Lisa Burton of Sayre, PA and Patrick Burton of Utica, sixteen
grandchildren; Heather Yerkie, Joshua Yerkie, Kristin Yerkie, Trisha
Yerkie, Marcus Dunham, Jason Burton, Kayla Burton, Jonathan Burton,
William Burton Tammy Burton, Vincent Burton, Brittany Burton, Christie
Burton, Patrick Burton Jr. Samantha Burton, Brianna Burton.
He was pre-deceased by his father Robert H. Burton on August 24,
1947, a brother William Burton, a son Robert H. Burton on August 23,
1980 and an uncle William Christie on April 9, 1998.
Funeral
Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday August 28, 2004 from the
Ironside Funeral home, Inc. with Douglas C. Wilbur interim pastor of the
Vernon Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be made in Stockbridge

Lizzie Mae Davis,
98, of 1020 Chapel Street Oneida passed away Friday morning, November
19, 2004 at her residence with her loving family at her side.
Lizzie was born April 21,
1906 in Button City, NY the daughter of Frank Henry and Alta Daisy
Button McQuade. She was
educated in Talet Schools and was a resident of New Berlin for many
years.
She had been a resident of Oriskany Falls and Oneida area for the
last seven years.
She was the widow of Ernest
Jaquay and Gordon Davis.
She had been a private duty
housekeeper and cook.
Lizzie was a former
member of the Madison Baptist Church.
Surviving are her nephew
Gari C. and Marlene McQuade with whom she resided, her niece Shelli
Houck of Sherrill, several great nieces and nephews
and her special caregiver, Heather Aldasch.
She was predeceased by one brother, Lynn Frank McQuade and
nephew, Leonard Lynn McQuade.
Funeral
Services will be held on 4:00 PM Monday, November 22, 2004 from the
Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Neil D. Coe officiating.
Interment with be made in the South Edmeston Cemetery.

Walter C. Delahunt

Walter
C. Delahunt, 80 of West Lake
Street North Bay died Monday evening March 15, 2004 at Oneida Healthcare
Extended Care Facility where he had been a patient since November.
Walter Delahunt was born on April 8, 1923 in Cleveland, NY the
son of Edward and Beulah Corson Delahunt.
Mr. Delahunt attended the Cleveland schools.
He married Marie R. LeMonnier on March 17, 1947 in Cleveland.
Mr. Delahunt was employed by Oneida Silversmiths as a group
leader for 44 years retiring in 1973.
Mr. Delahunt was an Army veteran serving in World War II.
He was a member of the Constantia VFW and the American Legion in
Camden.
Walter was a member of Oneida Ltd. Retirement Club and the North
Bay Fire Department.
Surviving besides his wife, Marie are:
two daughters and son-in-laws; Missy and Gary Locke of North Bay
and Josette and Tim Smith of Camden, eight grandchildren, twelve great
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by a son, Dany Delahunt on April 28, 2001.
Memorial
graveside services will be held in the spring in North Bay
Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Ironside
Funeral Home, Inc. 342 Main Street Oneida. There are no calling
hours.

Georgette L. Fisher, 77, of 547
Broad Street died unexpectedly Sunday morning April 4, 2004 at her
residence following a brief illness.
Georgette was born on
February 25, 1927 in Woonsocket, RI the daughter of J. Waldo and Sylvia
Deshaies Fugere. She was a
graduate of Woonsocket High School class of 1945.
She married Christopher
David Fisher on December 6, 1946 in Woonsocket. Georgette and her
husband moved to Oneida in 1963.
Georgette was a member of
St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida. She was the first Physical Education
instructor for St. Patrick’s School and was a former member of the
mothers club. She was an
active participant in Gold’s Gym Tennis Club of Syracuse where she
served as tennis coordinator and had won numerous tournaments and
awards.
Georgette was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving besides her
husband are two daughters and son-in-laws, Barbara and David Adams of
Clinton, Patricia and Al Vrooman of Oneida Castle; two sons and
daughter-in-laws, Christopher David and Lynn Fisher Jr. of Hamlin,
Raymond and Sherry Fisher of LaVista, NE; nine grandchildren, Kimberly
Stauffer of Liverpool, Jeffery Fisher of Brockport, Karl Fisher of San
Antonio, TX, Anthony Fisher of LaVista, NE, Megan Adams, Rebecca Adams,
Bryan Adams all of Clinton, Sara Vrooman and Bradley Vrooman of Oneida
Castle; two great-grandsons Daniel and Garrett Stauffer.
She was pre-deceased by one daughter Mary Fisher Knapp on May 15,
2000.
Funeral Services will be held 8:30 AM Wednesday from the Ironside
Funeral Home, Inc. and 9:00 in St. Patrick’s Church where the Funeral
Mass will be celebrated by Rev. David J. Orzel. Interment will be made
in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Oneida. Friends are invited and may call 4-7

Betty J. Frost,
71 of 540 Sayles Street Oneida died Friday morning March 26, 2004 at her
daughters home in Rome following a lengthy illness.
Betty was born on February
12,1933 in Rome the daughter of Timothy J. and Daisy H. Stimpson Staple.
A lifelong resident of the area she was a graduate of Rome Free
Academy and CCBI in Syracuse.
She was united in marriage
to Oliver H. Frost on July 31, 1954 in Zion Episcopal Church in Rome.
Oliver died on January 2, 2002.
Betty was employed with SUNY
Health Science Center in Syracuse as a program coordinator in the
Department of Continuing Education for many years. She retired on April
1, 1995.
Betty attended Gethsemane
Episcopal Church in Sherrill.
Surviving are her two
daughters and son-in-laws; Linda and F. James Lane of Dublin, GA, Laurie
and Daniel Grossman of Rome and four grandchildren, Laurie Lane, James
Lane, John Grossman and Timothy Grossman, one brother and sister-in-law;
Jack and Joan Staple of Rome, a dear cousin and her husband Norma and
Peter Bullock of Camillus and several nieces and nephews. She was
pre-deceased by a brother Ronald Staple of Rome.
Funeral
Services will be held 11:30 AM Monday March 29, 2004 from the Gethsemane
Episcopal Church, 320 Park Street Sherrill with Rev. Beverly
Messenger-Harris officiating. Spring
interment will be made in St. Helena’s Cemetery Oneida.

Janet L. Grimm,
47, of 120 Sconondoa Circle, Sherrill died peacefully Sunday morning,
March 7,2004, at University Hospital, Syracuse, where she had been a
medical patient since February 19, 2004, following a long illness.
Janet
was born on July 6, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd
and Jane Talley Lindgren. She
was a graduate of Oneida High School Class of 1974 and was a graduate of
Mohawk Valley Community College Nursing Program.
Janet
was a register nurse for 27 years and served the last 17 years in the
St. Luke’s Hospital Cardiac Catherization Lab in Utica.
She
married Gilbert F. Grimm on June 28, 1980 in Redeemer Lutheran Church in
Oneida.
Janet
was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Verona and was a former
Cub Scout Den Mother in Sherrill.
Janet
was a loving wife and mother and her greatest joy in life was spending
time with her family by whom she will be deeply missed.
Surviving
is her husband, Gilbert, her father and step-mother Floyd and Rosemary
Lindgren of Oneida, three sons Benjamin, Kyle, and Justin all at home,
four brothers and sister-in-laws Donald and Roxanne Lindgren of Irwin,
PA, David and Deb Lindgren of Cottontown, TN, Thomas and Theresa
Lindgren of Hurley, NY, and James and Kim Dwyer of Oneida, three sisters
and two brother-in-laws Paula and Tom Warden of London, England, Laura
Harrison of Oneida, and Linda and John D’Aoust of Simpsonville, SC,
and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral
services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 11, 2004, from St.
Peter’s Lutheran Church Verona, with Vicar Richard S. Yost
officiating. Interment will
be made in the Grove Cemetery, Durhamville.

Gertrude Harden,
91, a resident of the Masonic Home 2150 Bleeker St. Utica since July
2000, formerly of 513 Elizabeth St. Oneida, died peacefully Tuesday
afternoon November 30, 2004 in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where she had
been a medical patient for one day.
Gertrude was born on May 19,
1913 in Chicago, IL the daughter of William and Klara Boyack Wolski. She
attended school in Chicago and moved to Oneida in 1970.
She married George Harden on
August 19, 1933 in Chicago. Mr. Harden died on February 12, 2001.
She had attended both St.
Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s Church in Oneida.
Gertrude was a loving wife,
mother and homemaker and thoroughly enjoyed playing Bingo.
Surviving is her daughter
and her husband; Carol and Peter Weber of Whitesboro, four
grandchildren; Cindy Coe Verschage and her husband Daniel of McMurray,
PA, Timothy Coe of Canastota, Kenneth Coe and his wife Lisa of
Wampsville and Robert Coe and his wife Christine of Canastota, five
great-grandchildren; Ryan Coe, Meghan Coe, Amanda Coe Brittany Coe and
Kenneth Coe and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by one
son Dale Harden in 1936 and eleven brothers and sisters.

Jacksonville, FL died Saturday January 16, 2004 at his residence.
Art was born on March 24,
1938 in Oneida the son of Arthur and Myrtie Blair Homewood.
He was a graduate of Oneida High School class of 1956. He had
been a lifelong resident of Oneida moving to Jacksonville 14 years ago.
Art was retired from the
State Fire Marshall’s office in Florida and the City of Oneida Fire
Department.
He was a 43-year member of
the Loyal Order of the Moose Oneida Lodge #421, the Hibernian Society
and the Clan Graham and Clan Blair.
Surviving is his wife the
former Caroline Hope, his mother Myrtie Homewood Younglove of Oneida;
three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Arthur Homewood Jr. of Aberdeen,
NJ, Thomas and Gloria Homewood of Las Vegas, NV, James and Stephanie
Homewood of Flowery Branch, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and
William Drummond of Canastota, several grandchildren, two great-grand
children.
Funeral Services will
be held 9:00 AM Saturday January 24, 2004 from the Ironside Funeral

James M. Knapp,
58, of 321 Kenwood Avenue Sylvan Beach died peacefully, Thursday morning
March 4, 2004 at his residence following an illness of the last 2 years.
Jim was born on February 27,
1946 in Utica the son of Elmer C. and Thelma Campbell Knapp.
He attended Utica Schools.
Jim enlisted with the US
Navy and proudly served four years aboard the USS Harry E. Yarnell.
He married Michaela Ellen
Donlon on October 20, 1973 in St. Mary’s of the Lake Church Verona
Beach.
Jim was employed as a glazer
from 1969 until his illness forced him to retire in 2002. He was last
employed with IUPAT Local 677.
Jim was a member of St.
Mary’s of the Lake Church, the Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153
where he served as Sergeant of Arms for the last 5 years and was a life
member of the IUPAT Local 677.
Jim was an avid fisherman
and was well know for his fish fry’s, “Jimmy Burgers” and Karaoke
renditions of Frank Sinatra. He was also known as “The Dancing Fool”
to every woman he knew. His greatest joy in life was holding a young
child and was known as “Uncle Jimmy” by many.
Surviving is his wife
Michaela, his father Elmer Knapp of Sylvan Beach; two sons Edward Morgan
Knapp and Jennifer Grayless of Tucson, AZ, Joseph Michael Knapp and
Rebecca Johnson of Sylvan Beach; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Diane
M. and William Brody of Sylvan Beach, Denise I. and Randy Chandler of
Blossvale, three brothers and one sister-in-law; Robert S. Knapp of
Blossvale, Norman W. Knapp of Blossvale, Douglas P. and Linda Decker
Knapp of West Winfield, grandson James Dean Knapp of Tucson and expected
granddaughter Erika Morgan Knapp of Tucson, five godchildren, Robin
Knapp of Utica, Megan Donlon of Oneida, Christy Knapp of Rome, Amanda
Cable of Blossvale, Austin Chandler of Blossvale, the daughter of his

Donald R. Lee, 76, of
40 Seneca Avenue Oneida Castle, NY died Tuesday morning September 28,
2004 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Don was born on August 9,
1928 in Syracuse the son of Robert Lee and Claribel Gates Lee Whipple.
He was a lifelong resident
of the area and was a graduate of Stockbridge Valley High School class
of 1950.
Don married Lillian M.
Foster on July 9, 1950 in Durhamville.
He proudly served with the
US Army during WW II as a light truck operator.
Don was a truck driver with
Associated Transport and Interstate Systems both in Yorkville. He also
was a school bus driver for Stockbridge Valley Schools. He retired in
1993 after being an independent truck driver for several years.
He was a member of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church in Rome.
Surviving is his loving wife
Lillian, one son Terry Lee of Mesa, AZ, one daughter and son-in-law
Janice and Ronald Grant of Albuquerque, NM, one sister Arlene Goodell of
Oneida, one niece Eileen Goodell of Oneida

Gertrude L. Lovett,
80, of 4769 State Street Oneida died peacefully Saturday evening, March
13, 2004 at her residence with her loving daughter at her side following
a lengthy illness.
Gertrude Lovett was born
October 23, 1923 in Clockville the daughter of Leon and Cora Fox.
She graduated from Stockbridge Valley Central Schools.
She married Robert Lovett on
February 17, 1945. Mr.
Lovett died on November 11, 1991.
Gertrude Lovett was employed
for 30 years as a secretary for the security police at Griffiss Air
Force Base, retiring in 1980.
Mrs. Lovett was of the
Protestant faith.
Mrs. Lovett loved to shop,
go to garage sales and watch television.
Surviving
are her daughter, Linda Major of Oneida, a brother, Kenneth Fox of
Cleveland, NY, three grandchildren; Kimberly and Ken Carver of Verona,
Amy Buyea of Florida, and James Buyea of Canastota and a very dear
friend, Evelyn Watkins of Oneida. She
was pre-deceased by a brother, Leonard Fox.
Memorial graveside services will be held in the spring in
Sunnyside Cemetery, Merrillsville.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Ironside Funeral
Home, Inc., 342 Main Street, Oneida.

Mary E. Moshetti,
83, of 410 Seneca Street died Saturday morning December 18, 2004 in the
Oneida Healthcare Center where she had been a medical patient for the
last two days,
Mary was born in Rome, NY
the daughter of Frank and Lydia Ethel Brown Houser. She was a graduate
of the West Leyden Central School. She later attended the School of
Design in Memphis, TN and the National
Dry Cleaning Institute in Silver Spring, MD.
She married Patrick A.
(Patsy) Moshetti on February 19, 1947 in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Moshetti
died on August 4, 2000.
Mrs. Moshetti and her
husband owned and operated the Sherrill Dry Cleaners for 38 years until
1981 when their son took over operation of the business.

Helena’s Church in Sherrill and was a member of Ramblin Rounds Dancers
in Oneida.

Audrey Graham of Florida, Leah and Aaron Beyle of West Leyden and
Katherine Clanton of Oneida, 7 grandchildren; Roger Gordon Williams of
Whitesboro, Amber Munger and Chad Munger of Dallas, TX, Stacy (Herb)
Jones and her husband Christopher of Oneida, Patrick Moshetti III and
Melissa Moshetti of Vernon Center and Paul Kinney of Morrisville and
three great grandchildren; Hanna Munger, Ryan C. and Karissa Marilynn
Jones, two
step-granddaughters and their husbands; Vernadette

nephews. She was pre-deceased by one daughter Priscilla Williams in
1995, her identical twin sister Martha Grogan of Rome and her brother

Funeral Home Inc. 342 Main Street Oneida with her son-in-law Pastor
Roger S. Williams officiating. Spring Interment will be made in St.
Helena’s Cemetery Oneida. There

Mushala, 87, of 530 Seneca
Street Oneida died peacefully Friday morning February 6, 2004 in the
Oneida Healthcare Center where she had been a medical patient for the
past 2 weeks.
Helen was born on December
16, 1916 in Parsons PA, the daughter of John and Bertha Pachutka Budziak.
Her father died when she was three years old and Helen was raised
by her mother and stepfather Michael Donai.
Her family moved to Ava, NY
in 1920 and she attended and graduated from West Leyden High School.
She married John Mushala on
October 18, 1941 in Syracuse.
During World War II, while
her husband was serving in the Army, Helen was employed as a security
guard for Rome General Cable. She
then was employed with Smith-Lee Co. of Oneida as an assistant
supervisor in the wrapping department for 14 years retiring in 1961.
Helen has been a member of
St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida since 1946.
She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving is her husband
John, one sister, Mary Nellenback of Middletown, NY; two brothers, Frank
Donai of Stokes and Mitchell Donai of Boonville and several nieces and
nephews. She was
pre-deceased by on sister Stella Means and two brothers John Donai and
Jesse Donai who was killed in the invasion of Normandy during WW II.
Funeral
Services will be held Tuesday February 10, 2004 at 9:30 AM from the
Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. and 10:00 AM in St. Patrick’s Church where
the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. David J. Orzel.
Interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Oneida.

Mr. Bartholomew E.
(Bart) O’Brien 81, of 518
Pine Street Watertown, NY formerly of 420 Leonard Street Oneida died
Saturday afternoon January 24, 2004 in the Good Samaritan Medical
Center, Watertown.
Bart was born on June 12,
1922 in AuSable Forks, NY the son of Patrick and Emma Call O’Brien.
Bart had been a resident of Oneida since 1947 and moved to
Watertown in 2001.
Bart was a graduate of
AuSable Forks Central School class of 1940.
He was a graduate of the State University of New York at
Plattsburgh in 1946. He
then received his Masters Degree in Education from Syracuse University
in 1947.
He married Marjorie I.
Harrison on June 17, 1946 in AuSable Forks. Marge died on July 9, 1999.
Bart served his country
proudly from 1943 to 1946 with the US Army as a Communications
Specialist. He participated in campaigns in the Ardennes, Northern
France, Central Europe and Rhineland.
In 1947, Bart became
an integral part of the education of the children of Oneida when he was
hired as an 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher in the Oneida
Junior High School. While at the Junior High he was the coach of Varsity
Basketball, Golf and Tennis teams. From 1954 until his retirement in
1977 he was the Principal of the North Broad Street School in Oneida and
in 1976-1977 he also served as the Principal of the Wampsville
Elementary School.
From 1979 to 1984 Bart was
the Executive Secretary for the United Way of Greater Oneida.
Bart was a member of St.
Patrick’s Church in Oneida, a former President of the Holy Name
Society, former Eucharistic Minister and former member of the parish
council. He was also the
Parish and District Chairman for the first Diocesan Hope Appeal in 1978. |

Bart was inducted
into the Oneida Rotary Club on October 2, 1962. He served as President
in 1964 -1965 and had also served as Secretary and editor of the Club
Bulletin. He served as
District Governor of Rotary District 7150 during 1982 – 1983. He and his wife Marge were both recognized Paul Harris
Fellows for their contributions with Rotary International.
Bart was a founding member
of the Oneida Chapter of AARP and served as the First President in 1980
– 1981. He had also served as editor of the chapter newsletter and
Program Chairman in 1984 –1985.
Bart was a member of the
Board of Trustees for the Oneida Library. In 1978 he served as chairman
of the House Committee, and President of the Board of Trustees in 1986
–1987. In 1988 he served
as Chairman of the Library Construction Project.
Since 1953 he has been a member of the Oneida American Legion Post #169
in Oneida. He was also a member and past director of the Kanon
Valley Country Club. Prior to his moving to Watertown he was a
very active player in the Tuesday Night Men's League and Thursday and
Saturday mornings. On September 7, 1989 on the 200 yard 17th hole
at Kanon Valley, he swung his five wood and had a hole-in-one.
Bart had several
professional affiliations that he was involved with. He was a Life
member with the National Education Association, an Associate member with
the NYS School Administrators Assn., a Life member of the Plattsburgh
Alumni Association and an Honorary Life Member of the North Broad Street
School PTA.
Bart was recognized for his
contributions to his profession and his community with the following
awards. In 1964 he was the Oneida High School Booster of the Year, In
1970 New York State Educator of the Year, 1978 recipient of the Oneida
Rotary Club “Roses to the Living Award”, 1979 Greater Oneida Chamber
of Commerce Annual Citizenship Award, 1983 Oneida Daily Dispatch “Club
Man of the Year Award” 1985 National AARP Award for Outstanding
Volunteer Service.
Bart was an enthusiastic fan
of Syracuse University Basketball and Football and enjoyed many games at
the Carrier Dome.
Surviving are two daughters
and one son-in-law; Elizabeth Anne (Betty) O’Brien of East Lansing,
MI, and Carol and Charles Devan of Watertown, one son and
daughter-in-law; Neal P. and Jane O’Brien of Troy, OH, five
grandchildren; Neal O’Brien, Jennifer O’Brien, Kathleen O’Brien,
Keri Devan and Kristen Devan, one great grandchild, one brother and
sister-in-law; Patrick J. and Norma O’Brien of Nipoma, CA and several
nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by one brother Hugh T.
O’Brien, and two sisters Mary Higgins and Genevieve Rooney.
Funeral
Services will be held 9:30 AM Wednesday January 28, 2004 from the
Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. and 10:00 AM in St. Patrick’s Church where
the funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Timothy F. Elmer, one of

Rose M. Richmond
70, of Noyes Manor Apartments died Friday July 16, 2004 at Oneida
Healthcare Center where she had been a surgical patient for the past
day.
Rose was born on January 29, 1934 in Oneida the daughter of
George and Myra Dunham Powlesland.
A lifelong resident of Oneida, she resided for many years at 386
Cleveland Ave. and moved to Noyes Manor in November 2002.
Rose was a graduate of Oneida High School class of 1952.
She married Philip K. Richmond on October 31, 1953 in
Fayetteville. Mr. Richmond
died on June 9, 1996.
Mrs. Richmond was a hard working mother, employed by various
Oneida businesses and retired in 1996 after 22 years at the Oneida
Limited Silversmiths Knife Plant.
Rose was a member of the Beacon Light Baptist Church in Vernon. She attended the Wednesday Morning Women’s Bible Study.
She was an avid BINGO player.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law; Lawrence P. and
Deborah Richmond of Chittenango, Thomas P, and Patricia Richmond of Palm
Springs, FL and Richard K. and Kendra Richmond of Oneida Castle, two
grandchildren and spouses; Brandy and Stan Hooker of Lisbon Falls, ME
and Philip and Sarah Richmond of Minot, ND and two great grandsons;
William P. Richmond and Zachariah E. Hooker.
She was pre-deceased by one son, Timothy A. Richmond in 1969 and
one brother, Paul Powlesland in 1994.

78 of 307 N. Main Street Oneida died Friday evening September 10, 2004
in Stonehedge Nursing Home, Rome where he had been a resident for the
last week following a lengthy illness.
John was born on June 12,
1926 in Otter Lake, NY the son of Thomas F. and Dora Lang Rowe.
He was a graduate of
Forestport Central Schools class of 1943.
John proudly served with the
US Army from 1944 to 1946 where he was honorably discharged from the
Engineers Construction Battalion having served in Europe, Africa, Middle
East, Philippines and Asiatic Pacific Theatres.
John was employed with
Oneida Ltd. Silversmiths for 40 years retiring in 1986. He had been
previously employed with his father as a mason and stonecutter.
John married Celeste Ingalls
in 1948.
John was a catholic and had
been a member of St. Mary’s of the Snows in Otter Lake.
Surviving is one son, James
L. Rowe of Chittenango; one daughter Donna L. Rowe of Minneapolis, MN;
one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas B. and Shirl Rowe of Nassau, NY,
two sisters, Mary L. Boyd of Canastota and Marion T. Stothers of
Woodgate; his caretaker and companion for the last 20 years Leona Curtis
of Oneida, her daughters Amy and Mark Brady of Taberg, Susan DeMauro of
Munnsville and Kathy Curtis of Munnsville and their children, Meghan,
Brittany, Kyle, Devan and Dillon; and several nieces, nephews and
cousins. He was pre-deceased by his infant sister June Cecile Rowe in

83, of 7779 Roberts Street Road joined her beloved husband
Lawrence, Wednesday afternoon July 28, 2004 in the Oneida
Healthcare Center with her loving family at her side.
Mary Alice was born on
October 31, 1920 in Carthage, NY the daughter of Chester and Vera
Sheddleton Wright. She came to Oneida in her youth and was a
graduate of Oneida High School.
She married Lawrence W.
Smith on May 31, 1938 in DePauville, NY. Mr. Smith died on March 5,
1999.
Mary Alice attended the
United Church of Canastota, United Methodist and attended the Women’s
Coffee Clutch.
Mary Alice was a loving
wife, mother and homemaker who loved to sew and bake.
She spent a lot of quality time working in her flower garden
which gave her much happiness.She had also been a representative for
Avon Products for many years.
Surviving are six daughters and four son-in-laws; Vera and Thomas
Branch of Abbeville, AL, Sharon and Robert Sturdevant II of Canastota,
Karon Rinaldo and fiancée Kent Price of Canastota, Linda & Robert

Hamilton following an extended illness.
Betty was born on May 16,
1923 in the Town of Stockbridge the daughter of Reuben and Lena Perkins
Snyder.
She was a lifelong resident
of the Oneida area and was challenged by a lifelong disability.
During her early years Betty
attended the Salvation Army in Oneida.
Surviving is her
daughter-in-law Diana M. Snyder of Oneida, seven grandchildren: Ted
Snyder Jr. of Vernon Center, Diane Bish of Oneida, Carole Snyder of
Oneida, David and Michelle Snyder of Oneida, Ronald and Sherry Snyder of
Verona, Donna Snyder of Rome and Nancy and Michael Potaczala of Oneida,
10 great-grandchildren, one sister; Marjorie McAllister of Oneida and
several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by one son Theodore T.
(Ted) Snyder on July 5, 1993.

Chuck was born on June 23,
1935 in New London the son of Leo O. and Reva A. Smith Spink. He was
educated in Verona Schools.
Chuck was employed for 20
years with the Camden Wire Company as a truck driver retiring in 1983.
He then was employed for one year with Swift Transportation.
He also owned and operated Chuck’s RV Center in Camden from
1981 to 1991.
He was a Methodist.
Surviving are three
daughters and two son-in-laws, Sandra Wheeler of Altmar; Tracey and
James Pappa of Camden; Teresa (Squeek) and Jack Brown of Camden; two
sons and daughter-in-laws, C. Daniel and Dawn Spink of Cicero, Richard
and Linda Spink of Long Beach, MS, one sister; Betty Spink of Utica,
three brothers and two sister-in-laws, Robert Spink of Sherrill, Stuart
and Jean Spink of Durhamville, Kenneth and Marilyn Spink of Oneida, 11
grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his fiancée Donna Congden of Rome and his
children’s mother Lillian M. Spink of Westdale.
He was pre-deceased by one grandson James R. Wheeler in July
1981.

Joseph Daniel
Spink, 23, of 634 Marine Way,
died Tuesday September 21, 2004. Working as the deck captain on the
fishing ship Jeanoah seventy miles south of Kodiak he was swept
overboard and lost at sea.
Joseph was born on August
13, 1981 in Rome and had lived in Milton Indiana and Florida before
moving to Alaska three years ago.
Survivors are his mother,
Marlene Wolfal Lambert of Milton, IN; his father and stepmother Charles
Daniel and Dawn Spink of Cicero, brother Aaron Spink of Cicero; two
sisters Mrs. Robert (Jessica) Canty of Connersville, IN and Katalin
Lambert of Milton, IN; maternal grandmother Ray Wolfal of Richmond, IN;
paternal grandmother Lillian Spink of Camden; step-grandparents Arnold
and Lorraine Hogan of Verona and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He
was pre-deceased by a sister Corrie Lambert, maternal grandfather Don
Wolfal and paternal grandfather Charles Spink.

Williams, 71 of Vernon Center,
died unexpectedly Saturday morning April 17, 2004 in the emergency room
of Rome Memorial Hospital.
Eleanor was born on July 24,
1932 in Vernon the daughter of Clinton H. and Anna Lampman Jacobs. She
had been a lifelong resident of Vernon Center and became a resident at
the Rome Nursing Home in January 2004.
She was a graduate of Vernon
High School class of 1950 and the Utica School of Commerce in 1951.
She married Ronald W.
Williams on November 28, 1959 in Vernon Center. Mr. Williams died on
January 27, 1967.
Eleanor was employed as a
secretary at the Rome State School for many years.
She was a member of the
Vernon Center United Methodist Church, the 25 year Retirees Club of Rome
State School, Vernon Historical Society, a 50 year member of the Order
of the Eastern Star Vesta Vienna Winona Chapter #115 where she served as
Matron in 1957 and the Grand Representative to New Brunswick, Canada in
1987 &1988. She was on
the Board of the Vernon Center Cemetery and served as Treasurer for many
years.
Surviving are one daughter
and son-in-law, Beth Ann and David Childress of Central Square, one
granddaughter Sarah Ann Childress; one sister, Mary
Janson of Denver, CO, Eleanor’s companion, Ronald Eldred of
Vernon Center. She was

96, formerly of Noyes Manor 600 West Hinds Avenue died peacefully
Saturday morning February 14, 2004 in the Oneida Healthcare Center
Extended Care Facility with her loving family at her side where she had
been a resident since September 5, 2002.
Alice was born on January
31, 1908 in Niagara Falls, NY the daughter of Frank and Martha Mueller
Metcher. She came to the Oneida Castle area in 1914 and attended the
Oneida Schools.
She married Frank M. Wright
on June 30, 1931 in the Town of Vernon. Mr. Wright died on June 17,
1966.
Alice was a facing machine
operator for Oneida Ltd. Silversmiths for over 40 years retiring in
1969.
She
was of the Protestant Faith.
The
family would like to acknowledge the Extended Care staff for the loving
compassionate care given to Alice during her stay at the facility.

He was a graduate of Canastota High School and Mohawk Valley
Community College where he received an Associate’s Degree in
Electrical Technology.
Ed was employed as a customer service account representative
based in Syracuse with Honeywell from 1965 till 1990.
He then was employed for 5 years with DataServe of Minneapolis,

He attended First United
Methodist Church of Oneida.
For many years, Ed was a breeder and exhibitor of show rabbits,
raising American Checkered Giants and Golden Palomino Rabbits under the
name of Old Erie Rabbitry. His
rabbit breeder affiliations were with the North Country Rabbit Breeders,
the New York State Checkered Giant Rabbit Club, the American Checkered
Giant Rabbit Club and the American Rabbit Breeders Association.
Surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law; Madalyn and
Charles Stankivitz of Wampsville and Mary and George Montgomery of
Vienna, his former wife, Susan Littler Miller of Oneida and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral
Services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Betsye
Mowery officiating. Interment will be made in Lenox Rural Cemetery Canastota.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ironside Funeral Home,

Sharon A.
Youngs, 60,of 122 East Elm
Street, Oneida, died at Abraham House in Utica following a lengthy
illness on Thursday afternoon, August 26, 2004.
Sharon was born on May 16, 1944, in
Oneida, the daughter of Kenneth T. and Jessie A. Drake Smith. A
life-long resident of the area, she attended Cazenovia schools.
She married Robert Youngs on June 2,
1962.
Sharon was employed as a teacher
assistant at the Oneida Area Day Care Center. She was formerly employed
at Hubbard Industries and was a caretaker at Family Care Home in
Waterville.
She was a member of the Christian Bible
Church. She also was a volunteer fo Oneida Library. She attended
various programs at Cedar House.
Surviving are two sons and
daughters-in-law, Troy Robert and Bonnie Youngs of Acworth, GA, and Thad
and Norma Youngs of Andalusia, AL, four grandchildren, Misty Youngs,
Danielle Youngs, Troy Youngs Jr., and Tapanga Youngs, one brother and
sister-in-law; Albert and Vivian Smith of Anderson, SC, one sister and
brother-in-law; Pamela and Cecil Perry of Herkimer, a niece, Whitney
Perry, and a nephew Alan Smith. She was pre-deceased by her twin sister,
Sheila Smith in 1964.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM
on Saturday, August 28, 2004, from the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., with
Vicar Kevin Shock of St. Peter's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment
will be made in Stockbridge Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call
1-2 PM Saturday at the funeral home, 342 Main Street, Oneida. Memorial
